Resume for Prof.W.C.Chen

1. Biography
1938.11: was born in Jiang-su Province in China.

1960.2: graduated from the Physics Department of the Education College in Jiang-su Province.

1964.7: graduated from the Physics Department of Nanjing University.

1964.8: to become a employee in the Chinese Academy of Sciences until now. During the past 30 years, Prof.Chen have been engaging the crystal
growth methods, mechanism and applications, in Institute of Physics,
Chinese Academy of Sciences for the long time. He has been studying
the crystal growth in space since 1986. During the period of 1983.1-1985.7, Prof..Chen, as a visiting scholar in the State University of New York at Buffalo, to study the kinetics of crystal growth by the Constant Composition Methods. During the period of 1997.4-1997.9, Prof..Chen, as a visiting professor In Nagoya University of Japan to study crystal growth mechanism.

Prof..W.C.Chen is a member of the following three Academic Societies:
Chinese Space Science Society, a standing councillor; Chinese Optical
Society; Chinese Ceramic Society.

2. Achivement of Research Work

1) Foundation of the crystal growth group in Institute of Physics with my colleagues and Establishment of Facilities for crystal growth from the solution.

2) Establishment of Laboratory for studying the Kinetics of Crystal Growth by the Constant Composition Method, which was previously non-existent in China.

3) Establishment of Laboratory for simulation of crystal growth in space by the Laser Holographic Interferometry.

4) More than 10 kinds of single crystals were grown, such as: LiIO3 , KIO3 , HN4IO3 , KB5O8.4H2O, Na(BrxCl1-x)O3 , NaBrO3 , NaClO3 , Rb2ZnCl4 , Ba(NO3)2, Sr(NO3)2 LiClO4.3H2O, TGS and HAP families etc.

5) Three times space experiments on crystal growth from the solution were carried out from 1988-1994 by the Chinese Recoverable Satellites, which was the first research at home and abroad.

6) As a member of the Preparatory Group, has been working for Foundation of National Microgravity Laboratory (NML) since 1993. Establishment of Laboratory for in-situ and real time onservation of crystal growth processin space by the Laser Mach-Zehnder Interferometry.

7) The following prizes were awarded for significant contribution on crystal growth technology and mechanism.

(a) National Invention Prize awarded by Chinese Sciences and Technology Council for the new procedure of LiIO3 crystal growth(Oct.1982).

(b) Gold-plated medal prize awarded by 14th Geneve International Invention Exhibition for growth of larger section of LiIO3 (April,1986).

(c) Silver medal prize awarded by 35 Eureca International Invention Exhibition for the growth of high quality LiIO3 crystal (Oct.1986).

(d) The prizes for the excellent papers (1989,1992)

(e) Silver medal prize awarded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences for Growth of Alpha-LiIO3 crystal in Space (April,1997)

(f) Silver medal prize awarded by the Chinese Education Ministry for the kinetics on Demineralization and Remineralization of tooth enamel. ( January, 1999)

8) More than 120 papers have been published at home and abroad.
